Couldn’t resist the temptation for a number of reasons, including marking the turn of the short winter days, and not least the fact that I’m from Co Wicklow originally but hadn’t climbed Lugnaquilla before – now that takes some admitting!
Fantastic hike and very strenuous – just what was needed before the over-indulgence of Christmas.
From Baravore Car Park we followed Bullock’s Pass up to Camenabologue onwards to Benleagh, Cannow and then Lugnaquilla. Downwards through Fraughan Rock Glen. Distance 18Km, ascent 900m.
Almost no other hikers were out.The wind higher up was very strong. On the ascent it was almost into our faces which took a lot of extra energy and it was howling on the summit. On the way down it took quite an effort not to get blown over! But exhilarating!
Relaxing around the open fire in Glenmalure Lodge afterwards, good coffee, a snack and the usual banter rounded off a great day – thanks to Enda and the Group. Looking forward to the next outing.
