Sawyer Mini Water Filter

Water, 1kg or 2.2 pounds per litre! Heavy to carry on a long hike! What about drinking mountain stream water?

Bad idea – or so we are told! It might look crystal clear, but contamination from wildlife carcasses or faeces can cause serious illness!

The Sawyer Mini Water Filter looks like a great solution for making stream water safe to drink. Here I have a look at how it does on filtering stream water from the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

The blurb on the Sawyer Mini Water Filter website says it removes 99.99999% of all bacteria, such as salmonella, cholera and E.coli. It also removes 99.9999% of all protozoa, such as giardia and cryptosporidium.

Believe me, hiking will not be fun if we get bugs like these in our system!

Anyone come across cases and effects of drinking contaminated stream water? Thoughts or comments?

And hoopla! hoopla! I’ve just figured out how to centre an embedded video! For any amateur bloggers like myself out there who might be interested, just stick <div> tags around the code and in-line style the opening div tag with ‘text-align:center;’ simple! 🙂
