Glenmalure

Like kids in a sweet shop! Such is the choice of trails, peaks and looped walks in the Wicklow Mountains, as well as enchanting places to have some sociable refreshments after a great hike!

It was Glenmalure last Saturday where 23 members of the Wicklow Hiking and Adventure Group started out from Baravore car park.

We followed the river up via Table Track onto Camenabologue and then over an open hillside path across the summit of Benleagh. From there down over the beautiful Fraughan waterfall through Fraughan Rock Glen and back to the car park.

About 16km in all, taking about 4 hours. So good! The weather was super too, though hot enough at the beginning, but cool breezes further up.

Capped it off with some sociable refreshments at the great Glenmalure Lodge at Drumgoff.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the hike!

Glenmalure Lodge is a super place! Brings back fond memories of my Wicklow Way hike a year or so ago, where I had really pushed it distance-wise in very hot weather. Expended a lot of energy and lost a lot of body fluids because there weren’t really sufficient fresh water sources on route.

So I called into Glenmalure Lodge on that hike to tuck into a huge sticky toffee dessert and ice cream to get some sugar back in my system and top up my water bottles! Much better!

Roll on our next outing with Wicklow Hiking and Adventure Group, has to be one of the best walking groups around! 🙂

Have been eyeing up a hiking trip to either (or both!) the Comeraghs or Connemara before the onset of winter!

Any good accounts of hikes in those locations? or others?
