The Sao Paulo metropolitan area is just huge, almost 19 million people, and Ibirapuera Park (Parque Do Ibirapuera) is a large park of almost 2 sq kilometers within the city area. There is only one other larger park, Carmo Park, within the Sao Paulo urban area.

Not surprisingly, on Sundays Ibirapuera is jam-packed with Paulistanos (people born in Sao Paulo) out getting some fresh (for Sao Paulo!) air. Continue reading

Mountain Sanctuary Park is about an hour from the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

It’s a great place for some moderate hiking.

This was a golden opportunity with so many unforgettable highlights, such as the chain ladders up a high cliff, summiting a peak of well over 3,000m, a memorial to fatalities by lightning and a jaw-dropping view from the top of the second highest waterfall in the world – and not forgetting the knee-knocking climb back down the chain ladder!
